A 57-year-old Old Bridge resident was seriously injured when he was caught in a fire that erupted in his garage.
The fire at the home on Hansen Road was spotted by a neighbor, who called 911 around noon, said Old Bridge Police Lt. Arthur Barullo. The homeowner, who has not been identified, was likely in the garage working on the antique cars that were kept there, Barullo said.
As the man was trying to put out the fire, his clothes caught on fire and he was badly burned, Barullo said. He was flown to Saint Barnabus Medical Center in Livingston, Barullo said.
Another resident escaped the fire unharmed.
The fire was contained to the garage area and firefighters were able to save the home, Barullo said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
